This hard-working talent also needed to be computer savvy and have great social media skills. Unfortunately, because this was a startup, it needed to be cost effective.

HOMESTEAD, FL. — The City of Homestead and Florida International University (FIU) are raising awareness about the importance of mammogram breast screenings. Breast cancer currently ranks second in cancer fatalities for women, second only to lung cancer. The City of Homestead and FIU believe that the more information and resources they can provide to those who are at risk for breast cancer, the more lives can be saved. 

This Mother’s Day, Island SPACE Brings Shirley Chisholm to Life in a One Woman Play at Pompano Beach Cultural Center

Plantation, Florida - This Mother's Day, May 14th, 2023 at 2:30pm, Island SPACE Caribbean Museum is bringing the story of American icon Shirley Chisholm to South Florida in their presentation of “Shirley Chisholm: Unbossed and Unbowed.” This one-woman play on the life and times of the outspoken African-American activist of Barbadian and Guyanese parentage is written and performed by actor Ingrid Griffith and will take place at the Pompano Beach Cultural Center.

Miami-Dade Parks to Host Summer Jobs Fair at Tamiami Park Fairgrounds on April 22-23

Wyclef Jean to be Honored at Chefs of the Caribbean Celebrity Brunch Haitian Heritage Month Edition

Black Affairs Advisory Board to Host Community Forum on Black and Brown Women’s Maternal and Infant Mortality

MIAMI, FL – The Miami-Dade County Black Affairs Advisory Board (BAAB) will co-host with the Women’s Fund, a public forum about maternal and infant mortality statistics revealing the disparity for the Black and Brown community. 4th Annual Community 5K Run/Walk

Jamaican nationals and friends of the Diaspora are getting ready for the fourth annual Community 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Miramar Regional Park in Miramar. Warm-up will begin at 6:30 a.m., followed by the race start at 7:00 a.m., simultaneously in five cities across the Southern USA. The cities include Atlanta, GA; Birmingham, AL; Houston, TX; Phoenix, AZ; and Orlando, in Central Florida and tri-county South Florida region.

U.S. and West Indies Emancipation Experience for Panel Discussion at Island SPACE Caribbean Museum

Plantation, Florida - “Emancipate yourself from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds.” The immortal words of Jamaica’s Marcus Garvey, adapted by Bob Marley, still ring true, especially for those among the African diaspora. African-Americans and Afro-Caribbean people have had very different emancipation experiences and have developed different collective social consciousness because of it. On Saturday, May 20th, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., Island SPACE Caribbean Museum presents “Emancipation Reimagined: From the U.S. to the West Indies,” the second in the series of "Verandah Talk" panel discussions addressing the concept of emancipation, this time featuring scholars of both Caribbean and African American background.

Congresswoman Meek’s Opening Night Exhibit Reunites the South Dade Community

MIAMI-DADE – The South Dade Black History Center Advisory Board, one of the 11 boards under the Office of Community Advocacy, honored the late Congresswoman Carrie P. Meek with an exhibit that captured the spirit of her life, legacy, and impact on the South Dade Community. The event took place on March 31 at the Larcenia J. Bullard Plaza.
