WASHINGTON – The Family, a national network of Black conservative leaders issued the following statement regarding the violent storming of the U.S. Capitol.
Kay Coles James“Many of us became Republicans because of our belief in the power of faith, human dignity, self-governance, and the rule of law. The violent storming of the U.S. Capitol Wednesday was a repulsive display of evil, not a peaceful demonstration that is emblematic of America, and we condemn it in the strongest terms possible. Equally disturbing are the conspiracy theories related to the election that led to it, which are being fueled by some politicians in our Party. We must examine reports of voting irregularities to build trust in our democracy, but the results of the election are clear - there was no widespread fraud on a large enough scale to overturn the election. Joe Biden will be president, and while we may disagree with him on many policy issues, we wish him well and stand ready to work with him where we can. Now is a time for the Republican Party to examine itself after losing the White House and Congress. Unless we get serious about debunking conspiracies, refocusing on solutions, and winning more minority votes, we will continue to be a minority Party. During this divisive time in America, we also urge conservatives to join us in recommitting ourselves to the words of the prophet Micah to ‘act justly and love mercy and to walk humbly with our God.’”
