Trans Guyana Airways prepares for direct Guyana-French Guiana flights

GEORGETOWN, Guyana – Trans Guyana Airways (TGA) says it is preparing to launch direct flights between Georgetown and Cayenne following the signing of a modernised air services agreement between Guyana and France.

tranwaesThe airline says it has begun administrative and regulatory preparations and intends to operate at least two weekly nonstop services, subject to the required approvals.

Guyana’s Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation Deodat Indar and French Ambassador to Guyana Olivier Plançon signed the agreement in Georgetown on September 30.

The agreement replaces the bilateral air services framework signed in 1976.

TGA says Guyana has designated it to operate scheduled passenger and cargo services between Guyana and French Guiana. The agreement also provides for commercial cooperation between airlines, including code-sharing and other cooperative marketing arrangements.

According to TGA, a direct flight could reduce travel time between Georgetown and Cayenne from as much as 24 hours by existing surface connections to about one hour and 15 minutes by air.

The airline says the proposed service could also provide onward connectivity through carriers serving French Guiana, including Air France, and support tourism, business travel, investment and trade between Guyana and French Guiana and across the wider Guiana Shield.

TGA said the agreement was signed during Guyana’s hosting of the ICAO/EASA 3rd Global RSOO/RAIO Forum for Aviation Safety.

The airline said it has started preparations for the proposed service, but its launch remains subject to regulatory and operating approvals.
