The Nevis to St. Kitts Cross Channel Swim Reports Another Eventful Year

Charlestown, Nevis - The Nevis Tourism Authority reports continued success and enthusiasm among the participants of the esteemed Nevis to St. Kitts Cross Channel Swim. The Cross Channel Swim is organized by the Nevis to St Kitts Cross Channel Swim Committee and it is known to have  swimmers as young as 8 years old and as mature as 70 and beyond, participate in the challenge.

The Cross Channel Swim is particularly unique in that it brings individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels together because of their shared passion for this event and open water swimming,” said Devon Liburd, CEO of the Nevis Tourism Authority.

Amongst those who were awarded top placements in their respective age categories were many local SKN swimmers. In the “19 and under '' category, Skyla Connor placed in 2nd place (1:24:37) in the female group and Troy Nisbett, from the males group, placed 3rd (1:25:01). In the “20 to 34” age category, Jennifer Harding-Marlin, from the female group, who was the overall winner of the Cross Channel Swim with a time of 1:09:28 and Ninian Blake, from the male group, who came in 2nd place with a time of 1:14:57. In the “50 to 59” age category, Jane Hanson of SKN placed first in the female group with a time of 1:17:08.

This annual event sees swimmers of all skill levels and abilities start at Oualie Beach on Nevis and finish at the Reggae Beach Bar, Cockelshell Bay, in St. Kitts as they cross the ‘Narrows’ - the 2.5 mile passage between the two sister islands. This exciting and unique challenge is open to those who enjoy the thrill of competitive open water swimming  as well as to swimmers that want to take in the underwater marvels with the aid of snorkeling equipment.

Together with this event, the SKN Swimming Federation has created an initiative that invites participants and supporters to donate new or used swim goggles to “Gifting Goggles’. The initiative distributes these goggles to the children that participate in swim instruction programs throughout the islands which aim to advocate for the Federation’s mission to promote safe open water swimming as both a sport and a leisurely activity.
