Sprinter Daniel Williams Breaks South American Indoor 200m Record

MIAMI, Florida – Sprinter Daniel Williams set a new South American indoor 200 meter record at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Indoor Track and Field National Championships at the Alachua County Sports Center over the weekend.

His time broke the 36-year-old record of 20.65 seconds set by Brazilian Olympic medalist Robson Caetano da Silva in 1989.

Williams’ time is the 10th fastest time in the world this year over 200 meters.

Williams, who hails from the mining town of Linden in Guyana, achieved international recognition after claiming a silver medal in the 400 meters at the 2017 Under-18 World Championships.
