Shanoya Douglas Blazes to 10.98 and Becomes Fourth-Fastest Jamaican Junior in Champs History
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Holland High School’s Shanoya Douglas etched her name into the record books Wednesday night, scorching to a stunning personal best of 10.98 seconds to win the Girls’ Class 1 100m title at the Boys and Girls High School Athletics Championship at the National Stadium.
Holland High School’s Shanoya DouglasWith the victory, Douglas delivered Holland High’s first-ever Champs gold medal, replicating the heroics she displayed two years ago when she secured Muschett High’s first title.
The World Athletics Under-20 200m medallist’s time, achieved with a 0.7m/s tailwind, is a new world lead for the season and elevates her to rarefied air in Jamaican junior sprinting.
Only three athletes have run faster at the high school level: Alana Reid, whose Champs and National Junior record stands at 10.92 seconds, followed by Tina Clayton (10.95) and Briana Williams (10.97).
Adding to the significance of her performance, Douglas remains eligible for the junior ranks next year, suggesting even greater achievements could be on the horizon.
Edwin Allen High claimed the remaining podium spots, with Alexxe Henry taking second in 11.21 seconds, followed by her teammate Renecia Edwards, who finished third in 11.45 seconds.
