Shabazz Asked to Step Down as Guyana Jaguars Head Coach By GFF

GEORGETOWN, Guyana – Head coach of Guyana’s national football team Jamaal Shabazz has reportedly been asked to tender his resignation by the Guyana Football Federation (GFF).

The news comes following the Jaguars’ poor showing in the CONCACAF Nations League which saw them relegated to League B.

Under the leadership of Shabazz, who is in his fourth stint with the Jaguars, Guyana finished last in Group A, losing three matches and drawing one, to end with just one point.

A source said Wayne Dover was expected to be named interim head coach.

“Wayne Dover is expected to take over the team for the remainder of the year until the GFF advertises for a new coach,” the source who is close to the situation said.

“Other than the string of bad results in League A that resulted in the team’s relegation, the main reason for the GFF asking for his resignation stems from the fact that Shabazz rather interestingly supported the Franklin Wilson slate against the Wayne Forde administration at the previous GFF elections last year,” the source further added.
