Saffie Continues Domination At Gulfstream Park With 16th Straight Title

HALLANDALE BEACH, Florida – Ace Barbadian trainer Saffie Joseph Jr moved within touching distance of setting a new record at Gulfstream Park when he captured his 16th consecutive trainers’ title here on Monday.

abjounorSaffie Joseph JrJoseph swept the Royal Palm Meet and is now just two crowns away from equaling Hall of Fame trainer Todd Fletcher’s record of 18 successive titles.

The 39-year-old finished with 46 wins from 178 starters over the four-month meet to earn US$1, 957, 720.

Joseph also captured six stakes, including the Musical Romance Handicap, Sheer Drama Handicap, Mr. Steel Stakes, Soldier’s Dance Handicap, the Carry Back Stakes and the Monroe Stakes.

Victor Barboza was a distant second in the standings with his 153 starters giving him 37 wins and earnings of US$1, 264, 500, while Carlos David was third with 27 victories from 133 runners and Joseph Orseno placed fourth with 24 wins from 117 starters.

Joseph will now shift his focus to the Sunshine Meet, which begins on Friday at Gulfstream Park.
