Jamaica's Elishama Beckford Shines at Corona Pro Surf Circuit Despite Defeat
ISABELA, Puerto Rico – Jamaica’s Elishama Beckford delivered a remarkable performance at the 38th Edition of the Corona Pro Surfing event, as the competition crowned its male and female champions at Middles Beach, Isabela, Puerto Rico.
With challenging 5-7-foot waves, the event saw standout performances from top surfers across the region with Salvadoran Bryan Perez taking home the men’s title.
Perez had to dig deep as he had a tough showdown against Jamaica’s Beckford, with Perez securing the win and the US $10,000 cash prize with two impressive wave scores of 9.77 and 9.50, totalling 19.27 points in the series final heat.
Beckford, although displaying incredible power and skill in the surf, couldn’t quite match Perez’s rhythm with the waves.
His best scores were a 5.40 on his fourth wave and a 3.83 on his second, giving him a total of 9.23 points.
Beckford had earlier eliminated Puerto Rico’s Mauro Diaz in a tightly contested semi-final. Jamaica’s Javaun Brown was eliminated in the opening round.
In the women’s division, Puerto Rico’s Havanna Cabrero claimed the crown with a series total of 9.14, edging out fellow Puerto Rican Jolari Carrera, who posted an 8.83. For her efforts, Cabrero secured the US $10,000 top prize.
Perez, in addition to winning the men’s final, was crowned the overall circuit champion alongside Costa Rica’s Rubiana Brownell, each earning $1,000 for their achievements.
