BUDAPEST, Hungary – Jamaica placed second in the final of the mixed 4x100m relay on the opening day of the inaugural Ultimate Championships here on Friday.
Jamaica (right) finished second in the mixed 4×100 relay in the Ultimate Championships.The quartet of Ackeem Blake, Tina Clayton, Kadrian Goldson and Jonielle Smith clocked 39.72 seconds to finish just behind the USA’s team of Ronnie Baker, Anavia Battle, Courtney Lindsey and Kayla White in a time of 39.64 seconds at the National Athletics Center.
Great Britain was third in 40.26 seconds.
There were no other medals for the Caribbean with several athletes missing out on podium finishes.
In the women’s 100-metre hurdles final, Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas narrowly missed out on a bronze medal, finishing fourth in 12.40 seconds, just behind third-placed Nadine Visser of the Netherlands (12.39 seconds).
Jamaica’s Megan Simmonds was fifth in a season’s best time of 12.42 seconds.
Meanwhile in the women’s high jump, Lamara Distin of Jamaica was sixth with her effort measured at 1.86 metres.
Trinidad and Tobago quarter miler Jereem Richards qualified for the final of the men’s 400 metres after placing fourth in Heat 1 in 44.44 seconds, while Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic won the first heat in the women’s equivalent in 49.58 seconds to advance along with Jamaica’s Nickisha Pryce, who was third in 49.72 seconds.
