TOKYO, Japan – Devynne Charlton of The Bahamas and Jamaican Danielle Williams and finished outside the medals in the women’s 100 metres hurdles at the World Athletic Championships here on Monday.
Devynne Charlton of The Bahamas (left) placed sixth in the women’s 100 metre hurdles at the World Athletic Championships.Running out of lane nine, Charlton placed sixth in a season’s best time of 12.49 seconds, while Williams was a disappointing seventh in 12.53 seconds.
The race was won by Ditaji Kambundji of Switzerland in a national record 12.24 seconds, with Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan copping silver in 12.29 and Grace Stark of the USA third in 12.34 seconds.
Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent failed to qualify for the finals after placing third in Heat 1 at the semifinal stage.
Earlier, Jamaica’s Orlando Bennett, Demario Prince and Tyler Mason all advanced to the semifinals of the men’s 110-metre hurdles.
Bennett strolled to victory in Heat 3 in 13.20 seconds, Mason was a comfortable winner in Heat 5 in 13.17 seconds, while Prince finished fourth in Heat in 13.31 seconds, behind winner Enrique Llopis of Spain (13.22), China’s Zhuoyi Xu (13.28) and the USA’s Cordell Tinch in 13.31 seconds.
In the men’s long jump, Tajay Gayle and Nikaoli Williams of Jamaica leapt 8.28 metres and 8.15 metres respectively, to comfortably qualify for the final.
Malik James-King of Jamaica finished fourth in Heat 1 of the men’s 400 metre hurdles in 48.27 seconds to automatically advance to the semifinal, while Roshawn Clarke advanced after clocking 48.83 seconds after finishing fifth in Heat 4.
Assinie Wilson, also of Jamaica, was eliminated after finishing eighth in Heat 3 in 49.91 seconds.
In the women’s 400 metre hurdles, Jamaica’s Andrenette Knight (53.74) and Tia-Adana Belle (55.27) booked their spots in the semis after placing second and sixth respectively in Heat 2.
Shiann Salmon of Jamaica also qualified for the next round after finishing second in Heat 4 in 54.21 seconds.
