Antigua and Barbuda National Netball Squad Named For ‘Battle of the Isles’ Tournament
ST. JOHN’S, Antigua — Antigua and Barbuda’s senior women’s national netball team is gearing up for regional competition with a 22-member training squad announced ahead of the Battle of the Isles Tournament, set to run from October 28 to November 1 in St Maarten.
The squad presents a strategic blend of seasoned veterans and emerging talent, under the guidance of head coach Jamila Fitz, who will be assisted by former national goal shoot and Antigua and Barbuda Netball Association (ABNA) President Karen Joseph.
Among the notable inclusions is goal shooter Ervedine Parker-Barnard, whose exceptional performances in the recently concluded Village Netball League earned her a spot in the national setup.
She joins a core of experienced campaigners including Rayana Regis, Kizzy Hughes, Tashana Bloomfield, and Jonelly Encarnacion, who bring invaluable international experience to the squad.
The complete training roster features: Ervedine Parker-Barnard, Rayana Regis, Charmaine Wetherill, Kizzy Hughes, Krizia Duncan, Anayjah Anthony, Joy Shaw, Sanchez Teague, Arielle McDonald, Rohena Paul, Jerissa Adams, Shouzan George, Tanya Green, Xandea Hobson, Latoya Golding, Juvan Richards, Sharifa Simmons, Trevisha Phillip, Tashana Bloomfield, Jonelly Encarnacion, Serenity Colbourne, and Rochelle Ryan.
In an official statement, the ABNA emphasized the tournament’s significance as a developmental opportunity for the players.
“The tournament will give the players an opportunity to compete against some of the best teams in the region while gaining valuable experience crucial to their personal growth and development,” the association stated.
The squad is currently undergoing an intensive training regimen designed to sharpen fitness levels, enhance teamwork, refine technical skills, and elevate overall performance.
“The players are undergoing an intensive period of training and preparation as they work towards representing Antigua and Barbuda with pride, determination and excellence on the regional stage,” the statement continued. “The tournament will provide an important opportunity for the nation’s netballers to test their skills against regional competition while continuing the development and growth of the sport locally.”
