Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States to Celebrate 42nd Anniversary

CASTRIES, St. Lucia – The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) has planned a slew of activities to celebrate its 42nd anniversary of existence.

OECSCEThis year the anniversary will be celebrated under the theme “Vision. Integration. Sustainability. Progress.”

A release from the Organisation stated that the “42nd Anniversary Celebrations will highlight the achievements, progress and aspirations of the OECS, and will also recognize the commitment and dedication of its eleven (11) Member States, as well as its partners and stakeholders.”

The statement added that the activities are “aimed at ensuring that every OECS Citizen has the opportunity to get involved.

with a month-long calendar of activities beginning observe its 42nd Anniversary on June 18, 2023, under the theme ‘Vision. Integration. Sustainability. Progress.’ In commemoration of this milestone, the OECS Commission will celebrate with a calendar of activities throughout the month of June.

The first major activity is carded to be a tour called “the OECS in the Classroom” which will run from June 13 – 16 in the schools in St. Kitts and Nevis followed by the OECS Fun Walk on June 17.

On June 14, OECS young people will get to participate in a knowledge-based poll about the Organisation, using the U-Report Platform.

There will also be an OECS Colours Day on June 16 throughout the region – the day on which citizens “will show their pride and support for the OECS Integration Movement by donning the OECS Colours of green, yellow, white and navy blue.”

According to the statement, the highlight of the month of celebration will be the hosting of the 73rd Meeting of the OECS Authority in Saint Kitts and Nevis from June 18-19, 2023.

The Anniversary celebrations will culminate with a Thanksgiving Service at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Castries, Saint Lucia on June 25.

The OECS Commission says it would like to see participation, in its planned activities, the general public, organizations, and stakeholders, both within and beyond the OECS region, as it celebrates shared values and aspirations.

The OECS groups the islands of Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Kitts-Nevis, Montserrat, Anguilla and the British Virgin Islands.
