I wanted to give you a quick update about our work this week. We’ve been hard at work safeguarding our upcoming elections. But before I get to that, I have to ask: are you enrolled in Vote-By-Mail? It’s critical that every voice is heard in the elections in August and November, so please make sure you have a safe option to vote. Enroll at www.VoteFromHome.miami.
- Phone Banks. Our Field Director and our field organizers have set up several virtual phone banks. These phone banks are wellness checks first, where our volunteers make sure voters have the resources they need during these difficult times. And we also have conversations with voters about Vote-By-Mail, how easy it is to sign up, and how important having the option to vote from home will be, both for our August election and our November election. - Voter Protection Committee. Our Voter Protection Committee has been working with the Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections, Christina White, to ensure that safeguards are in place to protect poll workers and voters for our August and November elections.
- Postcards. We’ve been mailing out postcards to voters urging them to enroll in Vote-By-Mail. Interested in writing postcards to voters? Please coordinate with Ariel Sepulveda by emailing her at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
- Texting. We’ve been texting voters too. We know that upwards of 90% of people who get a text message from us will read it, so it’s a really great tool for reaching out to voters about Vote-By-Mail. - Digital Advertising. We’re not done! After all the phone calls, the postcards, the texts, we still have another outreach tool, and that is our digital advertising program, which is another way we reach voters while they’re online. Our message to voters is simple: Vote-By-Mail is easy, it’s safe, it increases voter turnout (sometimes by huge margins), and it decreases voter suppression. It’s a safe option for when going to the polls doesn’t seem like a good idea. Some of our wonderful elected Democrats have stepped up to be the face of this advertising campaign, and we thank them for that. Want to help fund our ad campaign? You can pitch in here.
- Hiring. We’ve hired two field organizers already. There are still openings for Field Organizers. We are particularly interested in hiring field organizers who know the Miami Gardens/North Miami-Dade area well, and those who can speak Haitian Creole. - Keeping Connected. We encourage you to follow our local Democratic elected leaders, as they use Facebook Live to keep connected. We will be hosting a Facebook Live next Monday at 5pm with Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava and Commissioner Eileen Higgins.
- Become a Sustaining Member. We understand that times are tough right now, and we don’t like asking for money, so we wouldn’t do it if it weren’t important. The work we’re doing to safeguard democracy is critical, and so if you can pitch in the cost of a cup of coffee each month, we would so appreciate it.
Thank you for being a part of this campaign. We have a lot of work to do to restore our democracy, provide healthcare to millions of people who don’t have it, restore our economy for working people, increase wages, protect our environment, and return a sense of decency to our county, our state, and our nation. We can’t do any of that without electing more Democrats, and that is exactly what we are doing.
