TWU Local 291 Endorses Congresswoman Donna Shalala for Second Term

MIAMI, FL - Transportation Workers Union Local 291 (TWU Local 291), the union of over 2,600 transportation Miami-Dade County Transit employees, today announced its endorsement of Congresswoman Donna Shalala in her reelection bid for the Congressional 27th District of Florida.

twunion“TWU Local 291 takes enormous pride in endorsing Congresswoman Shalala as she has served the community with distinction and great pride,” said TWU Local 291 President Jeffery Mitchell. “She has worked gallantly and tirelessly over the years to better the lives of the citizenry she has represented, and her efforts over time have indeed made a difference,” he added.

The union further highlights Shalala’s long history of serving as an advocate for health care, public education and environmental sustainability as reasons for their support.

“As a national leader on health care and so many other important issues, Donna brings unparalleled expertise to our community. National and community leaders with her attributes and track record are critical, and we enthusiastically welcome another well-deserved term as the Representative for the 27th Congressional District of Florida,” Mitchell said.

Concerned with the COVID-19 pandemic and the escalating crises around affordable housing, income inequality, and racial injustice, TWU leaders, both locally and nationally, have been playing an active role in the 2020 election cycle, putting their support behind candidates who are committed to working across the aisle and building communities for all.

“The past few months have really highlighted the inequities and weaknesses of our systems and infrastructures, making this election the most consequential for our generation,” said Mitchell. “It is more important than ever that our members become informed about what is at stake and remain engaged in the process,” Mitchell said.
