TOMORROW: Mucarsel-Powell to Continue District Tour, Focus on Health Care

MIAMI, FL – Thursday, August 22, U.S. Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (FL-26), member of the Hispanic Caucus’ Health Care and Mental Health Task Force, will continue meeting with constituents and South Florida health care providers to discuss how to ensure access to affordable health care. In the afternoon, Mucarsel-Powell will hold a town hall focused on health care issues facing South Florida residents moderated by Dr. Pedro J. Greer Jr. Dr. Greer is a professor of medicine, Founding Chair of the Humanities, Health, and Society, and Associate Dean for Community Engagement at Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. Throughout his career, Dr. Greer has been an advocate for health equity by engaging communities to create effective health and social policies and accessible health systems. Dr. Greer’s full bio can be found here

On Friday, August 23, Mucarsel-Powell will visit Kendall Regional Hospital for a tour of the health care provider’s facilities and to discuss solutions with local health care providers. Mucarsel-Powell has been a trailblazer in Congress for lowering health care costs and joined her colleagues in leading dozens of health care bills – from defending the Affordable Care Act to lowering prescription drug costs. She recently introduced the bipartisan Terminating the Extension of Rights Misappropriated (TERM) Act of 2019 to address the rising cost of prescription drugs. In May, the House passed the Strengthening Health Care and Lowering Prescription Drug Costs Act, a major piece of legislation that aims to lower prescription drug prices and defend vital protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

Mucarsel-Powell is continuing her fight to protect Americans with pre-existing conditions, lower prescription drug prices, and ensure all communities have access to affordable care.
