Jamaica's Tourism Minister Bartlett Elected Chair of the Inter American Committee on Tourism in DC

 WASHINGTON, D.C. - Jamaica’s Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett, was yesterday elected by acclamation as Chair of the Inter-American Committee on Tourism (CITUR) of the Organization of American States in Washington DC.

( Photo Derrick Scott) At Yesterday’s meeting Minister Bartlett came out ahead of the candidates from Paraguay and Ecuador for chairmanship. Both countries will now serve as Vice Chair of the Inter-American Committee on Tourism (CITUR). 

In making the announcement, Chair of the OAS Inter American Council for Integral Development, Jamaica’s Ambassador Audrey Marks congratulated Mr. Bartlett on behalf of member states. 

” Minister Bartlett I congratulate you as Chair along with the members of your committee and I wish you all much success in the work that you will be leading as we begin deliberation to prepare the draft work plan based on the Declaration of Paraguay towards the reconstruction and rebuilding of tourism post COVID-19,” Ambassador Marks said. 

In accepting the position, Minister Bartlett called on all member states to work together to complete the plans and policy programs that they had started. This he said would require a greater sense of innovation” as we cannot continue with things as they are, but move to things as they must be” Bartlett said. 

We must now seek to find new ways to deal with new disruptions that seems destined to follow this pandemic,” he lamented as he thanked Member States for the confidence that placed in him by way of his election to the Chair of the committee. 

He pledged his commitment to be a strong, fruitful and vibrant chairman and called for the support of everyone. We have so much to do, and I know the Americas are depending on us to chart the way to recovery and to thrive after recovery,” Bartlett Said.
