Manhunt Underway in Jamaica For Man Accused of Rape and Murder of 8-Year Old
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaican Police on Sunday said they have removed the two police officers where on guard duty at the St Ann’s Bay Hospital where alleged rapist Troy Ellis escaped custody in the wee hours of Sunday morning.
The 27-year old Ellis, who is said to have been a close friend and neighbor of the family, escaped custody on Sunday morning, from the St. Anns’ Bay hospital where he had been under police guard since September 24th after reportedly shooting himself and inflicting several stab wounds to his body in an attempted suicide.
A release from the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Corporate Communications Units said the two officers have been removed from frontline duty with immediate effect and a full report on the incident is expected to be submitted to the Commissioner of Police by the end of the day.
The circumstances of Ellis’ escape are now the subject of a major investigation by the Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau.
Earlier in the day police said that measure have been put in place to have Ellis back in custody in the shortest possible time.
