Jamaican Police Investigating Murder of Burmese-Born Doctor in Westmoreland

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Police are investigating the murder of a Burmese-born medical doctor, who  was found dead with his throat slashed at his home in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland, on Sunday afternoon.

naigauDr Aung NaingThey said witnesses had become alarmed after not seeing Dr Aung Naing, who had been living in Jamaica since 1997, for several days.

Dr Naing started his career as an intern at the Kingston Public Hospital, following his arrival from Burma and up until his death operated a private practice in Savanna-la-Mar.

According to the police, there was no evidence of forced entry into the home.

As of December 14, Jamaica has recorded 1, 114 murders as compared with 1, 352 for the same period last year, a 17.6 per  cent decline.
