Antigua and Barbuda's Former Attorney General and Speaker of the House Dies

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – The nation is mourning the death of former speaker of the House of Representatives and former attorney general, Sir Gerald Watt KC. 

geraldsireSir Gerald who died on Saturday, aged 86, was receiving medical treatment at the time of his passing.

Sir Gerald served in several areas of public service. 

He served as attorney general, chairman of the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission, president of the Antigua and Barbuda Bar Association and House Speaker. 

He resigned as House Speaker in 2024, after 10 years in the post.

His death has left the legal fraternity reeling, as the king’s counsel was one of the country’s most distinguished and highly-respected attorneys. 

He was head of Watt, Dorsett, Hewlett Law. Partner in the law firm, Dr David Dorsett, reflects on Sir Gerald as “one of a kind.”

Sir Gerald would have celebrated his 87th birthday on December 19.
