KINGSTON, Jamaica – Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton says the authorities are working to remove mold from the operating theatres at the island’s largest hospital – the Kingston Public Hospital, in a bid to reopen the facilities.
Tufton who was speaking on local radio on Friday, said a malfunctioning air conditioning system, that also forced the closure of the four operating theatres, has been fixed.
He however said mold remediation work is continuing in order to ensure infection control standards are met before reopening.
Based on this, surgeries have been relocated to other facilities across the Corporate Area.
He assed that a new plant for the Kingston Public Hospital should alleviate some of the infrastructure challenges being faced by staff and patients.
However, the construction of the facility is still at the planning stage.
