Health Authorities in Bermuda Are Concerned About Increase in Respiratory Illnesses

“I also suggest that if you haven’t already, please get the flu shot. Annual flu vaccination is a straightforward and effective method to safeguard yourself and others from seasonal influenza. It lessens the likelihood of severe illness and helps curb the spread of the virus in our community.”

The Ministry of Health issued the warning after its Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit observed an increase in cases of COVID-19, common cold, human metapneumovirus, strep throat, RSV and influenza.

It said reports of the flu are at a high alert above normal levels for this time of year and that there are other illnesses such as COVID-19, strep throat, RSV and the common cold and that  people  experiencing symptoms including fever, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle or body aches, headaches and tiredness, should consult a doctor.
The ministry said people aged over 65 years old and those with chronic conditions like asthma, diabetes, pregnant women and children are encouraged to seek medical advice if symptoms are severe.
