Miami-Dade County - The Children’s Trust Family Expo events drew thousands of South Florida children and families looking to prepare for the return of the school year later this month. The events were held on Saturday July 26, at Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus in downtown Miami, Saturday July 30, at the Sweet Home Community Campus in Cutler Bay, and Saturday August 6, at the Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex in Miami Gardens.
The Family Expo continues to provide a close-to-home opportunity for families to connect with the Trust’s extensive service provider network as well as other community agencies and organizations that serve them. Families were able to learn more about everything from free after-school, summer, and enrichment programs, nutrition education, injury prevention, programs for children with special needs, pre-K registration information and KidCare outreach.
All events were free to the public and featured hundreds of exhibitors, free school supplies and giveaways, live entertainment and free meals, provided by the Miami Dolphins.
“We have shifted the Family Expo from one central event at the Tamiami Fairgrounds, to community-based events, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive,” said President & CEO of The Children’s Trust James R. Haj. “It is our intention to continue to host the Family Expo at multiple locations to meet families where they are and expand convenient access to our services to as many families as possible throughout the county. During this time of rising costs and challenges for families, connecting them with Trust-funded resources is critical.”
Event partners included Miami Dade College, Papa Keith PK 4 People Matter, and Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church. Sponsors included the Miami Dolphins, EdFed Credit Union, University of Miami Jackson Children’s Care, Baptist Health, City of Miami Gardens, Florida Homeowner Assistance Fund, Colgate, and Community Care Plan.
