MIAMI-DADE COUNTY – Florida lawmakers passed SB 76 on April 30, a bill that focuses on homeowner property insurance and roof-damage claims and litigation. The bill, in its original form, would have allowed companies to no longer provide full replacement coverage for roofs over ten years old, which accounts for more than 80 percent of single-family homes in Florida.
“I am pleased Florida residents will have the roof protection they need when the next major hurricane comes through,” said Commissioner Joe A. Martinez. “It is my job to protect everyone from the adverse effects of these types of bills that could be devasting to homeowners, especially our seniors.”
