Game On! Get out and Play at Miami-Dade Parks During Park & Recreation Month

MIAMI —Game On!  Lace up your sneakers and be part of the fun and games happening at Miami-Dade Parks as they celebrate July’s Park and Recreation Month, an initiative of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). The monthlong nationwide celebration raises awareness of the vital impact of parks and recreation and conservation and stewardship activities in improving lives and the environment.

In Miami-Dade, join the Parks Department at these special Park and Recreation Month activities:

“Deering Estate offering $1 general admission!" – Saturdays & Sundays in July
Enjoy a guided museum tour at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and  3 p.m., scavenger hunts and outdoor games. More information here.

$10 Days at Zoo Miami – Monday, July 1 – Friday, July 5
Visit July 1-5, and enjoy a day at the zoo for only $10. Tickets at shop.ZooMiami.org.

“Fourth of July Golf Events” – Thursday, July 4 at these Miami-Dade Parks Golf Courses (Proceeds will benefit Parks’ programs for scholarships throughout our parks):

Country Club of Miami Golf Course (East Course) – Shotgun start is 8:30 a.m. 
Format is 6 holes, Yellow Tees; 6 holes, Green Tees; 6 holes, White Tees. Callaway Scoring System to determine winners. Entry fee: $45-Patron Card Members; $50-Guests. Closest to the pin on all Par 3s (optional $5 each).  Hot dog and fries served upon completion. Cash bar. Entry deadline is July 2, noon. Crandon Golf Course – Tee Times from 7 to 11 a.m.
Format is 6 holes, Yellow Tees; 6 holes, Green Tees; 6 holes, White Tees. Players pick which holes. Net scoring with current GHIN Handicap. (All others will use Callaway Handicap System. Palmetto Golf Course – Shotgun start is 9 a.m. (registration at 8 a.m.)
Make your own team or sign up as an individual. Each player must contribute three drives. Entry fee: golf fees, plus $15. Prizes: Low Gross and Low Net (based on number of entries). Each player must have USGA handicap to be eligible. Coffee and doughnuts will be served.  “Eco-Action Days” – Saturdays, 9 a.m. to noon; various parks

Meet and engage with Miami-Dade Parks’ naturalists and engage in conservation-action driven projects that assist in restoring the park and its natural area. Meets at the park’s Nature Center. “Summer Service Bash” at Amelia Earhart Park – Saturday, July 27, from 9 a.m. to noon (check-in opens at 8:30 a.m.)

Join hundreds of volunteers who will lend a helping hand in various park beautification projects, such as landscaping, mulching, decorating rain barrels and picking up trash throughout the park. For more information, visit www.iaminvolved.org. Register here.
