MIAMI-DADE – The Miami International Airport is now the first U.S. airport to test COVID-sniffing dogs, thanks to a resolution sponsored by Miami-Dade County Commissioner Kionne L. McGhee. The Miami-Dade Aviation Department is partnering with the Global Forensic and Justice Center at Florida International University and American Airlines to host a 30-day COVID-19 detector dog pilot program.
“We must not stay behind in our approach to fighting the spread of this virus. I am proud to be the sponsor of a program that will bring about crucial life-saving benefits for our communities,” Commissioner McGhee said.
The two dogs in the pilot program are Cobra, a Belgian Malinois, and One Betta, a Dutch Shepherd, both trained to detect the scent of COVID-19.
