Here's a Recipe for Haitian Codfish Patties
NEW YORK, NY - I love Jamaican Patties, I grew up eating them and they are my go-to snack here in the USA. I also love Haitian patties. Haitian patties are tasty small cocktail size and are made with beef, chicken, codfish or red herring.
Today I will share my recipe for Haitian Codfish Patty.
INGREDIENTS
1 lb cooked cod fish (finely chopped)
1 small onion diced
1scotch bonnet pepper Minced
1 large onion chopped finely
1 tsp of lime juice
2 tbs tomato paste
1 tsp adobo seasoning
1 tbs olive oil
1 egg
1 tbs water
1 package (2 sheets) Puff Pastry Sheets (buy in supermarket freezer section)
1 tsp lemon Juice
METHOD
Put puff pastry sheets to thaw (30-45 minutes from freezer.)
Mix the cooked Cod Fish, Adobo seasoning, onion, pepper and lemon juice.
In a large frying pan, heat the oil on medium high heat and sauté the fish for about 5 minutes.
Add the tomato paste and mix all ingredients together.
Remove from the heat.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Unfold thawed puff pastry sheets lay them on a pastry board dusted with flour.
Roll sheets and flatten out the sheet with rolling pin.
Cut pastry in rectangles with a knife.
Put 1 table spoon fish filling in the center of the rectangle. Fold and seal with water and a fork.
Place patties onto a baking sheet.
Brush patties with an egg wash.
Bake patties in the oven for about 25 minutes or until golden brown on the outside.
Remove the patties from the oven and serve warm.
