This is Jamaica Inc. a Florida Non-Profit organization whose mission is “Empower the Children of Jamaica to Restore and Preserve Their Culture Through Poetry and The Creative Arts”, provides scholarships through video rendition challenges of “This is Jamaica”, a poem written by Poet and founder of This is Jamaica, Mr. Peter Gracey.
Adrianna ClarkMr. Gracey, who is also the current Global Jamaica Diaspora Council Representative for the Southern USA, was excited to introduce the daughter of William “Bunny Rugs” Clark (former lead singer of the legendary reggae group, Third World) as the New President of the organization. The announcement was made on July 13th on the organization’s Facebook page.
Adrianna is tasked to take the organization to new heights, by expanding the Annual “This is Jamaica” Poetry Scholarship Competition to untouched classrooms and homes throughout Jamaica, and to create additional young ambassadors to highlight the importance of early childhood education through poetry and the creative arts.
When it comes to creativity, as we know, “the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree”. A powerful vocalist, Adrianna’s amazing voice can be heard throughout Spain, the United Kingdom and right here at home.
Adrianna Clark began her career in journalism after receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications and Journalism from the University of South Florida. She also holds a Master’s degree in International Multimedia Journalism from the University of Kent in England..
During her studies, she was hand-selected to intern at the BBC South East and at the university’s TV station, KMTV. In 2019, she released “Dancing on the Floor,” a remake of Third World’s song “Dancing on the Floor-Hooked on Love.”
Most recently, she was featured on the song “Jamaica is Calling” with reggae artist, Mason Di Emperor. Adrianna is also the praise worship leader and an ordained Evangelist at her church, the Miracle House International.
“I am very excited for the opportunity to lead this wonderful organization. It is a dream come true to work with our children back in Jamaica, through poetry. This is needed and it’s our little way of pushing Jamaica in a peaceful direction”.
Adrianna will replace Karrelle Chang as President and will work closely with “This is Jamaica’s” current ambassadors, actor Oliver Samuels, actress Sophia Nicholson, 9 years old Mariann Morgan of Redwood Primary, 13 years old Courtney Greaves of Campion College (formerly Jessie Rippol Primary), Dervan Malcolm of Power 106FM, and other board members including retired pediatrician, Dr. Andrea Thorpe.
The Annual Peter Gracey’s “This is Jamaica” Scholarship Competition 2023 is now open to Jamaican students 6-17 years old. Register at www.thisisjamaica.org . This year’s title sponsor is the Jamaican American Association of Central Florida. Prizes include a trip to Disney World in Orlando or US$1,000, first place. US$500 and US$250 for second and third place respectively. Video renditions are due in September.
