Barbados Water Authority Assures Citizens the Water Supply is Safe to Drink
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – The Barbados Water Authority (BWA) has denied media reports that the World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a warning to the island regarding its failure to meet the WHO drinking water guidelines for Barbados.
In a statement, the BWA said that contrary to what is circulating on social media with regard to the quality of the water supply in Barbados, “no warning has been issued to the government of Barbados by the WHO regarding failure to meet the WHO drinking water guidelines in Barbados”.
The BWA said that the potable water it supplies to Barbadians “is safe for human consumption and all development activities.
“The BWA, Ministry of Health & Wellness (MHW) and the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) have rigorous and continuous monitoring programmes for both the water in the distribution system and from groundwater sources.”
It said that any breaches of the water quality guidelines are promptly addressed through standard protocols which are stipulated by EPD, MHW and WHO.
