Singer Elihu Morris Scheduled to Release First Album "Broken Silence" on September 27
Broken Silence, the first album from singer Elihu Morris, is scheduled for release on September 27. The Boston-based artist co-produced the 17-song set with Andrew Campbell, his longtime collaborator.
Four songs from the album — Any Little Man, How You Cold So, On Your Side of Town and Turmoil — have been previously released. Morris wrote all songs on the project.
According to the veteran vocalist, “Every track is different from each other.”
Morris has been recording music for many years, but stated that previous attempts at compiling some of them for an album were shelved.
On Your Side of Town has an interesting story. Morris filmed its video last year in Kolkata, capital of West Bengal state in India to salute his East Indian heritage.
“I am always thinking out of the box, and when I was in my youth I always know that I am African, Jamaican and Indian, so as I got more mature I realized that I had to find my balance. That would give me more clearance of knowledge about who I am, so I can give more of me in my work,” Morris explained. “So, the reason why I chose Kolkata, because it’s the city of joy, and I thought it was perfect to get this video done there.”
Morris was born in Kingston, Jamaica’s capital, and was raised in the working-class community of Craig Town which is a stone’s throw from the famous Trench Town where Bob Marley once lived. Craig Town is the birthplace of Shocking Vibes Records, the company which helped put acts like Beenie Man, Tanto Metro and Devonte and Snagga Puss on the map.
