Isiah Mentor Releases His Latest Song "Dance With Women Again"
Isiah Mentor has fond memories of going to dances in Jamaica during the 1980s. It was a time when singers and deejays gave spontaneous performances on sound systems, and patrons danced together in similar fashion.
The veteran singer longs for the days when men approached ladies for a spot on the dance floor. He expresses his feelings in Dance With Women Again, his latest song.
Released in January, the self-produced single recalls a simpler time in Jamaican music.
“(In) The older days, if you will, was a time of innocence and natural love and respect where man and woman dance and have fun. I see where we are drifting far away from that,” said Isiah Mentor.
Dance With Women Again is done to the beat of 54-46, Toots And The Maytals’ 1968 song. Those are the classic melodies Isiah Mentor was weaned on, sounds that encouraged partners to hit the dance floor.
He noticed a switch from couples dancing during the 1990s when solo dancers, led by Bogle, began taking the spotlight. That trend continued with fellow mavericks like John Hype, Ice, Shelly Belly and Ding Dong.
Through Dance With Women Again, the plan is to bring back a sense of intimacy to dancehall music.
“The old days can definitely be revived because the world is begging for authentic dancehall and reggae music,” said Isiah Mentor.
