Hodari Q Releases "Under My Christmas Tree" Just in Time For Christmas
Hodari Brown remembers listening to Christmas favorites like David Foster’s Carol Of The Bells, and dreaming of one day writing his own Yuletide song. He achieved that as Hodari Q with Under My Christmas Tree which was released in November.
The Jamaican singer also produced the song which captures the mood of his favorite time of the year.
“I have always wanted to do a Christmas song, Christmas is my favorite time of the year. I just love the atmosphere, the Christmas lights everywhere, people are usually more friendly at that time of the year, the visiting friends, linking up with family, the joy and the laughter that is usually present during the season. It also reminds me of when I was a child enjoying Christmas with my family,” he said.
Listening to seasonal standards like Carol Of The Bells and The Salsoul Orchestra Christmas Jollies album were highlights of Hodari Q’s childhood. Unlike fellow Jamaican artists like Boris Gardiner and Carlene Davis who recorded Yuletide songs with a reggae flavour, he chose a pop sound.
"For this song, I went with a pop style for a more universal appeal. I initially was working on a Christmas album, but time didn't allow me to finish it so I had to focus on just this one song, but the album has reggae on it. More than likely next year I will be able to put the album out,” said Hodari Q.
