Enrollment is Open for Miami-Dade Parks’ Fit2Play and Fit2Lead After-School Programs

MIAMI — With the summer break coming to a close, parents will begin preparing their children for the new school year and getting back to a regular routine. In addition to the scholastic swing of things, “outdoor physical fitness time” is recommended to keep them healthy and fit for the classroom and life.

As part of its ongoing efforts to improve the lives of Miami-Dade’s youth, the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department offers two specialized after-school programs to help them embrace a heathier lifestyle and be better focused students.

The “Fit2Play program,” for ages 6-14, is nationally acclaimed and designed to help children discover the “fun” in fitness and develop healthy habits for a lifetime.  Children will stay fit with fully supervised activities focused on fitness, nutrition, as well as grow their appreciation of nature, science, and the cultural arts.

Fit2Play will be held Monday - Friday, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., August 19, 2019 through June 3, 2020, throughout the school year and school vacation breaks, at select Miami-Dade park locations.

Fit2Play program fees range from $25-$35 per week, depending on the park selected. A discounted fee is available for siblings at the same park.  With parent’s permission, children may also participate in the UHealth Study which tracks fitness levels, nutritional needs, and progress.

In addition, Miami-Dade Parks’ “Fit2Lead Youth Enrichment & Sports (Y.E.S.)” program,” offers a supervised and safe alternative for youth ages 12-14 and teens ages 15-17, after school at 10 county parks.  From homework assistance to critical enrichment sessions, the goal of the Fit2Lead program is to provide opportunities for at-risk youth to gain life skills that promote mental, social and physical health and encourage positive behaviors.
