Board Member Luisa Santos Proposes Board Item Moving M-DCPS Towards 100% Clean Energy Use By 2030

School Board Member Luisa Santos proposed an item acknowledging the urgency of achieving 100% clean energy use by 2030 during yesterday’s school board meeting.

The item establishes the M-DCPS Clean Energy 2030 task force which will develop policy recommendations, accountability processes, and an accompanying implementation plan to achieve this goal.  The Board will also participate in a School Board workshop on June 16, 2021 facilitated by sustainability experts and district personnel to develop an understanding of the issue and next steps.  Receiving overwhelming and unanimous support from all school board members, students, parents and community leaders on the day before Earth Day, the item outlines actions that will serve to set a north star for the district.

“It is our responsibility to safeguard the future for the next generations and invest in the health and well-being of our students,” said Ms. Santos. “This district is at the forefront of so many progressive initiatives and practices, and this campaign will be no different.”
