Trinity Exploration Confirms Discovery of Oil in Trinidad's Southern Basin

PORT OF Spain, Trinidad – The independent exploration and production company, Trinity Exploration & Production PLC,  has confirmed the discovery of oil at Jacobin-1 site within the Palo Seco area of the Southern Basin, near Trinidad.

basinshIn a statement, the company said it had successfully encountered hydrocarbons at the Jacobin-1 well drilling to a total depth of 10,021 feet – one of the deepest wells drilled in recent times within the area.

The well hit 290 feet of net oil pay including 63 feet of net oil pay in the deeper exploration targets.

Trinity Exploration said that a comprehensive logging and pressure sampling confirms virgin pressures in these deeper zones that are within pre-drill range for a commercial discovery.  The company said it is planning flow testing to confirm the durability of the reservoirs, which it is planning on starting in September.

“This is a very significant and material achievement by the team. To find virgin oil in our mature acreage points to a step-change in our understanding of the hydrocarbon system, the remaining resource potential and how we can approach the exploitation of these resources,” said chief executive officer, Jeremy Bridglalsingh.
