In any ordered society there are rules that must be followed. This is something that maybe easily observed in nature. Why humans resist this natural order I cannot explain or excuse! If there are winners, then there must be losers. There are Alphas and Betas just as there are Yings and Yangs. In a beehive there is a Queen Bee and everyone else works for her. There are haves and have nots. Nowhere in these examples is there room for a middle!
In 2014, when Higher Heights for America and the Center for American Women in Politics released our first report on the status of Black women in American politics, the data confirmed what we already knew: Black women were underrepresented at every level of government. But we were also organizing, running, and winning , often without the institutional support our leadership deserved.
Jamaican Patois as the language of resistance, ritual, and raw truth — from reggae to revival gospel.
WASHINGTON, DC – I am a diplomat with over 40 years of experience. My first instinct is always dialogue: bringing adversaries to a table and building mechanisms that find compromises with which everyone can live. But there are moments when “dialogue” is deliberately prolonged for the advantage of one side, resulting in increased dissatisfaction and greater conflict.
The first thing that we do when we are born is cry, as that signifies that we are alive and breathing. Girls are conditioned to cry at the drop of a hat, especially when dealing with the opposite sex. But boys dare not shed a tear, even when subjected to the most severe and excruciating physical or emotional pain.
WASHINGTON, DC– On 23 July 2025, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) delivered an advisory opinion at the request of the UN General Assembly – driven by small island States such as Antigua and Barbuda, Vanuatu, and the Maldives – declaring unequivocally that all nations “have a duty to prevent environmental harm” by limiting greenhouse‑gas emissions.
WASHINGTON, Aug 21, CMC – The Secretary-General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Albert Ramdin, has proposed a Road Map for Haiti. It is ambitious, detailed, and promising if adequately owned by Haitians. But plans don’t save people; action, commitment, and accountability do. Haitians must set priorities, approve budgets, and be accountable to their citizens and the international community for results.
WASHINGTON, DC – On August 5, a website I had never encountered published a hatchet job on Albert Ramdin, who took office as Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) less than two months ago.
UNITED NATIONS – The headlines are dominated by a world in trouble. By conflict and climate chaos. By rising human suffering. By growing geo-political divides.
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – In the Caribbean, where hurricanes, volcanic eruptions, and climate-driven displacement are constant threats, humanitarian action must be swift, inclusive and anchored in local leadership.
WASHINGTON, DC – I was sitting in my dentist’s chair, one of the few events in which, while my mouth was open, I could not speak.
Mothers are special, and children hold them near and dear to their hearts as that love is deep, lasting and unconditional. Mothers often have to raise children all by themselves, and the plight of the single mother is well known among many societies. It’s a difficult task, yet many mothers do it with grace, dignity, strength and love for the child. And yet, in many cases somehow it doesn’t turn out well for the child, especially if it’s a boy, for strong though she may be, a mother cannot be a father, and boys need fathers.
