Making a Difference in South Florida: African-American Achievers 2020 Honorees

Fort Lauderdale, Fla.  – In anticipation of the 28th annual African-American Achievers awards ceremony,JM Family Enterprises, Southeast Toyota Distributors and JM Lexus recently held a private reception to announce the 2020 African-American Achievers. The program was created 28 years ago by JM Family founder Jim Moran to recognize inspiring individuals who give selflessly in order to make a significant difference in the lives of others.

The estimated 45,000 attendees of Oprah's 2020 Vision: Your Life in Focus Tour’s first three stops—Fort Lauderdale, Minneapolis, Atlanta—discovered just how serious the talk show legend was about being more intimate about her life than she’s ever been. Considering that Winfrey built her brand on her openness, from battling weight issues to grappling with childhood sexual abuse, few could imagine her getting even more vulnerable. But she does just that as she helps others deal with their own stuff.

Human Trafficking is Big Business in South Florida

BROWARD COUNTY, FL – Make no mistake about it. According to the National Human Trafficking Hotline, Florida ranks third in the U.S. in human trafficking cases reported by states, behind only California and Texas. The hotline received more than 41,000 calls and identified 10,949 victims of human trafficking in 2018 experiencing a 25 percent jump from 2017. In 2019, the Florida Abuse Hotline received 201 calls of suspected human trafficking cases of minors verifying 60 of those cases.
