Jamaican Nicole Landry is the Owner of 'Journey of Atman', A Holistic and Wellness Company

A native of wintry Alberta, Canada, Nicole Landry has always found it amusing that her Jamaican father left a tropical country to settle in one of North America’s coldest regions.

According to her, “I can’t say I would have made that move.”

The move Landry made was to the United States’ South, Atlanta to be exact. That is where she operates Journey Of Atman, a company that specialises in holistic/wellness products including scented candles and smudge/wands made from lavender, sage and eucalyptus.

Landry started Journey Of Atman three years ago, after working for years in the health sector as a nurse. While in Canada, she did holistic courses which prepared her for a foray into one of the wellness industry’s most competitive markets.

Journey Of Atman’s main products are 17 “energy-healing and self-affirmation” candles with names such as Light, Abundance, Compassion and Respect. That number grew from a start-up of seven, and are produced from vegan soy wax and natural essential oils.

Pointing to ecommerce and remote services as the biggest markets for Journey Of Atman products, Landry would love her items to have a presence in Jamaica, where she has roots in Kingston, St Elizabeth and Westmoreland.

Unlike Ontario, Alberta has never had a large Jamaican or West Indian population. But Landry’s father made sure his Canadian family were aware of his heritage.

“My father's love for music ensured that all of the greats often played within our walls. Dennis Brown, Gregory Isaacs, Beres Hammond. So many to count. He took great pride in exposing me to our roots and culture. Before starting school, he would often educate me on the things that most western school books leave out. The impact of Marcus Garvey, colonialism, and the timeline of Jamaica's independence. In my opinion, Jamaican-ness is a way of life and a feeling,” she stated.
