UNITED NATIONS – A new United Nations report says increasingly sophisticated and high-caliber firearms and ammunition are being trafficked into Haiti, fueling an ongoing surge of gang violence that has plagued residents for months.

NASSAU, Bahamas – Prime Minister Phillip Davis says while Bahamians are “a compassionate people” they cannot afford to “shoulder any more burdens” as he reiterated Nassau’s position regarding illegal migration as well as the ongoing situation in Haiti.

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic - The Dominican College of Economists (Codeco) says the economy of Dominican Republic is unable to support any more illegal immigrants from Haiti as the government is unable to give them more jobs when there are already one million living in the country.

SANTIAGO, Chile – Women Affairs ministers and other officials from the Caribbean have joined their counterparts in Latin America in commuting committed themselves to “promoting intersectoral public policies that include affirmative action to foster women’s and girls’ participation, continuation and completion of education in the spheres of science, technology, engineering and mathematics”.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti – The visit by a CARICOM delegation to Haiti this week has been welcomed by many Haitian political stakeholders, but others fear all the efforts might be in vain should international actors fail to deploy a multinational military force to help the impoverished Caribbean country cope with the current catastrophic security situation, pundits say.

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – CARICOM Secretary General, Dr. Carla Barnett, Monday endorsed the launch of the United Nations Early Warning for All (EW4ALL) initiative, saying the region had no choice, but to pour its collective efforts into improving early warnings for all of the various natural disasters that befall the Caribbean.
