UN Human Rights Official Warns Haiti Could Become the New Wild West

UNITED NATIONS – The  United Nations designated expert on human rights for Haiti, William O’Neill, is warning that with armed gangs expanding their influence, self-defense groups morphing into gang-like entities and public officials acting with impunity, Haiti is slowly becoming something like the Wild West.

Dominica Reiterates Position That Caribbean Should Be Zone of Peace

ROSEAU, Dominica – Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit Thursday said Dominica remains committed to the Caribbean Community’s (CARICOM) position that the Caribbean should remain a “zone of peace” even as he  refused to comment on the position taken by his Trinidad and Tobago counterpart, Kamla Persad Bissessar, on the matter based on the presence of United States military off the coast of  Venezuela.

UNFPA Says Gang Violence Undermining Its Work in Haiti

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti – The humanitarian coordinator of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Christian Vovi, says the gang violence in Haiti is affecting the organization’s work in the French-speaking Caribbean Community (CARICOM) country.
