For TKR, ending a five-year title drought was about more than just cricket; it was about continuing the celebration for their fans.
“This means a lot to the nation. We had a mission,” said an elated TKR coach, Dwayne Bravo. “We felt really bad that for the last five years we were unable to pull through, but we are happy that we redeemed ourselves. This is for the nation.”
Bravo revealed that the performances of Walcott and Richards served as a direct inspiration for his team.
“I shared it on my social media platform,” said Bravo, who is also TT’s newly-appointed sports ambassador. “We felt that impetus to bring even more smiles to our adoring fans.”
The connection between national sporting success and unity was a theme Bravo emphasized. “I believe sports are the way out for the youths. It gives the country a boost. You look at the CPL, you look at the national football team recently, and what Keshorn and these guys did. Sports unite the country; people need to understand that.”
The champions were greeted by a hero’s welcome upon their return home on Monday. A vibrant crowd of fans and a lively tassa band greeted captain Nicholas Pooran, coach Bravo, and star players like Sunil Narine and Akeal Hosein at Piarco International Airport, cementing the victory as a shared joy for an entire nation riding a powerful sporting high.
