Singer Dee's 'Treat Mama Good' Is Inspired By His Mother and Salutes Hardworking Women

At his mother’s funeral last May, Singer Dee sang Treat Mama Good, a song he was about to record with fellow artist Richie Spice. The last of her eight children, he recalls doing an impromptu performance of the song for her in 2025.

“My mother (Rachel Bryan) was a school cook for many years. Everybody in the district loved her, she was everybody’s mother,” said Singer Dee.

He produced Treat Mama Good and shares writing credits with Richie Spice. The song was released in May, just days after Singer Dee bade farewell to his mother in Portland, their hometown in eastern Jamaica.

Treat Mama Good has entered the Jamaica Music Countdown Chart in Jamaica and the Reggae North Canadian Top 20 Chart. 

While inspired by his mother, Singer Dee says the song also salutes hardworking women who toil for their families. 

“It was inspired primarily by my mother, but also by mothers everywhere who dedicate their lives to nurturing and caring for their families. We wanted to create a song that expresses gratitude and respect for all mothers,” he stated.

Singer Dee, who lives in Edmonton, Canada, has been a recording artist since the 1990s. ‘Never Give Up’ and ‘Ten Toes’ are some of his previous songs.

He was aware of Richie Spice’s music and admired his skill as a singer-songwriter. But the closest they came to a collaboration was when famed producer Bobby Digital suggested they do a song together.

Bobby Digital, who died in 2020, never lived to see them record. For Singer Dee, sharing the mic with Richie Spice was fulfilling.

“Working with such an experienced artist was an incredible experience, and I learned a lot from him both musically and professionally,” he said.
