DOHA, Qatar – World champion Anderson Peters of Grenada produced the fifth best throw of all time to win the men’s javelin at the curtain-raising Doha Diamond League meet here Friday.

NEW YORK, New York – Early voting got underway on Saturday for a seat in Brooklyn, New York vacated by former New York State Assembly Member Nick Perry, who earlier this week was sworn in as the first Jamaican-born national to be United States Ambassador to Jamaica.

HAVANA, Cuba – Legislators in Cuba’s parliament have declared that the Caribbean island will observe May 25th as Africa Day to celebrate the roots and formation of Cuban nationality.

UNITED NATIONS – The United Nations High Commissioner, Michelle Bachelet, says armed violence has reached “unimaginable and intolerable levels” in Haiti and that the surge in violence is being fueled by heavily armed gangs in Port-au-Prince.
