Miami-Dade Transit Restores Full Capacity on All Transit Vehicles
MIAMI —The Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) announces today that Metrorail, Metrobus, Metromover, and Special Transportation Services (STS) will return to full capacity next week. Effective Tuesday, June 1, all Miami-Dade Transit modes will once again be allowing for full capacity on vehicles.
Riders are reminded that per federal mandate face masks are still required while riding or waiting at a bus stop or on the platform.
"As our community makes great progress on vaccination to put the pandemic behind us, with over 1.5 million people vaccinated with at least one dose and our 14-day positivity rate under 4%, our transit system is adapting," said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. "I'm proud that we are now ready to move back to full capacity on transit vehicles to provide the best service possible to our riders. We remind our community that masks continue to be required on transit and while on the platform or at the station following federal guidelines."
Capacity on public transit modes were originally restricted in 2020 due to the onset of the pandemic and in order to help facilitate social distancing. Restrictions were eased in April and now will be fully lifted starting June 1.
Throughout the pandemic, DTPW has taken many steps to keep passengers and staff safe while combating the spread of COVID-19. Including installing polycarbonate shields on all Metrobuses to further protect drivers; and using new cleaning technologies like UV light and fog machines; and installing new air filtration systems.
Miami-Dade Transit riders are reminded that all transit fares and parking fees will be reinstated beginning Tuesday, June 1. Riders who have been impacted by COVID-19 or are facing financial hardships may qualify for free or reduced fare.
