Chairwoman Edmonson Warns Against Gunfire on the Fourth and Beyond

MIAMI – Miami-Dade County Commission Chairwoman Audrey M. Edmonson on July 2 urged the public to celebrate July 4th safely by avoiding celebratory gunfire while working together to end the plague of gun violence.

Joining Chairwoman Edmonson were County Commissioner Esteban Bovo Jr., Miami-Dade Police South Operations Division Chief Christopher Carothers, Miami-Dade Police North Operations Division Chief Rosanna Cordero-Stutz, Opa-locka Police Chief James Dobson, and City of Miami Police Assistant Chief Manuel Morales, who reminded residents that anyone caught discharging a gun in public will be arrested and jailed.

“One bullet can kill a party when guns are used to commit a crime, to settle a disagreement or to celebrate by shooting a firearm in the air,” Chairwoman Edmonson said. “With the help of our law enforcement agencies, we are sending a strong message to put firearms away. We will not stop repeating that message until every child, resident and every visitor feels safe in every community.”
