Baseball Hall of Famer Andre "The Hawk" Dawson Honored

ImageOn August 6, 2010, Vice-Chairman Jose “Pepe” Diaz presented a special award to Andre “The Hawk” Dawson, who was recently inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame on July 25 in Cooperstown, New York. The award, which features a statuette of a hawk, was given to Dawson at Sun Life Stadium upon Dawson’s return from Cooperstown.

Andre Dawson played 21 seasons for Montreal, Chicago (NL) and Boston, before finishing his career with Florida in 1995-96. Dawson is a Miami native who graduated from Southwest Miami Senior High School and currently resides here with his family.

“Miami-Dade is proud to have The Hawk with the Florida Marlins,” said Vice-Chairman Diaz, who chairs the Miami-Dade Sports Commission. “He served the team well during the end of his baseball career, and now is helping mold a new championship team as a Special Assistant to the President. We are honored to have such an esteemed player in our midst.”
