NASL veteran scores twice in San Francisco's come-from-behind victory.  NEW YORK (April 10, 2017) - The San Francisco Deltas are officially off the mark. The newest North American Soccer League (NASL) club claimed its first victory at Kezar Stadium on Saturday night, and Tom Heinemann played a starring role in the historic triumph.

Saturday's affair didn't start as planned for San Francisco, as visiting North Carolina got on the board first through midfielder Tiyi Shipalane in the 23rd minute. Just before halftime, though, Heinemann gave the hosts some confidence going into the locker room, poking home a cross from teammate Cristian Portilla to level the score at 1-1.

Heinemann's equalizer provided the spark the Deltas needed, and in the 82ndminute, it was 2-1 in favour of the hosts. Brazilian forward Pablo Dyego scored a highlight-reel goal from the top of the box to put the Deltas on the cusp of their first league win.

In the game's final moments, Heinemann sealed all three points for San Francisco when he took a pass from Dyego, poked the ball through visiting defender Connor Tobin's legs, and fired a shot into the back of the net to make the score 3-1.

The historic victory vaulted the Deltas into second place in the Spring Season Standings through three weeks. Heinemann, an imposing figure standing 6-foot-4, joined the Deltas in the offseason after playing with the Tampa Bay Rowdies in 2016.

Heinemann has been reunited in San Francisco with his former coach, Marc Dos Santos, who was at the helm of Ottawa Fury FC when Heinemann helped the Canadian side reach The Championship Final in 2015.

A native of St. Louis, Heinemann spent three seasons in MLS with Columbus and Vancouver before plying his trade in the NASL, beginning in 2014.

After two consecutive home games to start the season, the Deltas will now take to the road, visiting Jacksonville Armada FC on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET. The clash, which can be seen live on beIN SPORTS USA and beIN SPORTS CONNECT, will pit the league's top two clubs against each other at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville.
