Miami-Dade Parks is calling on all fishermen to “go fish” at the eighth annual Blue Water Fishing Classic casting off at all six Miami-Dade Parks marinas on Saturday, June 11, 2011, from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.The Blue Water Fishing Classic is a fishing tournament for amateur, professional and junior fishing enthusiasts. This annual event attracts anglers from throughout Miami-Dade County offering a total of $20,000 in cash and prizes. Winners are determined by the combined weight of the three largest fish within the species of dolphin, wahoo, black-fin tuna, and kingfish.
The Fort Lauderdale Strikers extended their unbeaten streak to five games today after a tough road game ended in a 0 - 0 draw in front of 13,034 partisans at the Montreal Impact's Saputo Stadium. The Strikers had excellent chances on the day and were rewarded with another point earned on the road in a superb defensive effort. Goalkeeper Matt Glaeser records his fourth shutout of the season with a remarkable job in goal for the Strikers. The team will now travel back to Lockhart Stadium to face the Puerto Rico Islanders on Saturday, June 25th at 7:30p.m.
Midfielder Brian Shriver, on as a substitute in the 65thminute, provided two key goals in the Fort Lauderdale Strikers 3 - 0 victory over the NSC Minnesota Stars tonight, Saturday June 11th. Level after 45 minutes, the Strikers came out of halftime strong and finished that way.
On August 6, 2010, Vice-Chairman Jose “Pepe” Diaz presented a special award to Andre “The Hawk” Dawson, who was recently inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame on July 25 in Cooperstown, New York. The award, which features a statuette of a hawk, was given to Dawson at Sun Life Stadium upon Dawson’s return from Cooperstown.
Miami Dolphins/Sun Life Stadium, Project Medishare in partnership with the University of Miami Miller School and the University of Miami Global Institute announce the reconnecting of three children displaced by the earthquake that devastated the country of Haiti in 2010. On Tuesday, June 21, there will be two communications facilities established, one at Sun Life Stadium and the other at Hospital Bernard Mevs in Port-au-Prince, which will bring together three children and their respective families that were separated when the children were Medevaced from Haiti.
