The name of former West Indies star batsman Lawrence Rowe has been removed from the players’ pavilion at Sabina Park in Kingston by the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA). The JCA had earlier honored Rowe by naming the pavilion after him, but changed its decision recently citing comments attributed to the ex-player, when he allegedly said he had done nothing wrong by playing in then-apartheid South Africa in the 1980s. “By virtue of what he said he showed no remorse,” JCA President Lindel Wright was quoted as saying in the Jamaica Observer newspaper. “The people of Jamaica have been hurt and as a national sporting body we have been embarrassed by his statements in the interview.”
Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz dropped a couple places in the world ranking, but managed to stay number one among Caribbean soccer teams in the latest list released by the game’s governing body FIFA last month.     Below is the ranking of Caribbean teams with the world ranking in brackets.
Several senior officers serving soccer in the Caribbean have been disciplined by FIFA, the game’s governing body, in the wake of an alleged bribery scandal stemming from a special meeting of the Caribbean Football Union in May. The FIFA Ethics Committee fined and banned British Virgin Islands’ (BVI) Franka Pickering for 18 months; banned Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) President Horace Burrell for six months (three months suspended); and fined and banned Osiris Guzman of the Dominican Republic and Ian Hypolite of St. Vincent and the Grenadines for 30 days each (15 days suspended).

Jamaican-born Broward County Commissioner Dale Holness has formed a cricket advisory committee to promote and market the popular sport. The aim is to tap into the economic potential of the cricket facility at Central Broward Regional Park and Stadium in Lauderhill, South Florida. Members Holness’s committee include some well known names in cricket and sports business.
