The 10th anniversary of the Reggae Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K, Jamaica’s international marathon event, will take place on Dec. 4 in Negril, Westmoreland.
Stretching from Long Bay Beach Park, situated along Negril’s famed seven-mile white sand beach, to the town of Negril and then north to Green Island, the race features reggae music at each mile.
The marathon is set on an International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) certified course, featuring water/aid stations for every mile. Cooling stations are equipped with misters and iced towel wraps, and medical stations are positioned along the course, manned by a multi-disciplinary medical team with a helicopter on call.

Jamaican Donovan Ricketts has every right to be happy. He has been selected Major League Soccer’s top goalkeeper this season. Ricketts posted a career high 11 shutouts and allowed only 26 goals through 29 regular season games for the Los Angeles Galaxy. He helped the Galaxy to 18 wins seven losses and five draws, the best record in MLS for 2010 with 59 points.

The West Indies have started another rebuilding process with a change of captain and vice captain, plus the omission of two prominent players for the team’s cricket tour of Sri Lanka, which begins this month.

Darren Sammy of the Windward Islands was last month named captain, replacing Jamaican Chris Gayle in that role. Jamaican Brendan Nash will be Sammy’s deputy.

The North American Soccer League (“NASL”) was provisionally approved as the Division II men’s outdoor professional soccer league by the Board of Directors of the United States Soccer Federation (“USSF”) at its meeting in Toronto, Canada on November 21, 2010. The provisional nature of the sanctioning is consistent with the USSF’s bylaws which require approval by the National Council of the USSF. This approval is expected to be forthcoming at the USSF Annual General Meeting in February, 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
